Magnum Hybrid V-Twin — Experimental Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts the Magnum Hybrid, one of the most intriguing unofficial Harley-based engine experiments ever built.
Created by independent mechanics in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Magnum combined the bottom end of a Flathead with the overhead-valve top end of an Ironhead Sportster — an ambitious attempt to merge two eras of Harley-Davidson engineering.
Although never an official Harley-Davidson project, the Magnum concept reflected the creativity and mechanical curiosity of its builders.
It aimed to blend the torque and reliability of the Flathead with the breathing efficiency and performance of the Ironhead, resulting in a unique hybrid unlike anything from the factory floor.
Only a few such engines were ever assembled, each differing slightly in design — all built by hand, all pushing the boundaries of what a V-Twin could be.
Today, the Magnum stands as a symbol of garage-born innovation, proving that the Harley spirit lives as much in the workshops of enthusiasts as it does in Milwaukee itself.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
