This handmade drawing depicts the 1990 “Gray Ghost” Fat Boy — the first-year Softail FLSTF finished in Fine Silver Metallic and powered by the 1340 cc Evolution Big Twin. With its minimalist silver look, solid disc wheels, and clean silhouette, the original Fat Boy became an instant icon and one of the most memorable Evo-powered Softails of the early ’90s. Produced in very limited numbers and shipped to press attention immediately, the FXRS-SP / Fat Boy “Gray Ghost” combined the proven Evo engine with Softail chassis refinement — a combination that won instant respect among riders and collectors. Today the bike is regarded as a cult classic: subtle, refined, and brutally effective for its era.

Some enthusiasts and collectors like to read a deeper symbolism into the Fat Boy and the Gray Ghost. Rumours — never officially confirmed by Harley-Davidson — link the name Fat Boy to historic references (e.g., Fat Man/Little Boy) and suggest that the Gray Ghost’s silver finish and solid disc wheels echo wartime aviation aesthetics (B-29 imagery is often mentioned). These theories are part of the bike’s folklore: intriguing, widely discussed in rider circles, and perfect conversation starters — but they should be treated as fan lore rather than factory fact.
