1970–1985 Shovelhead (with Air Cleaner) — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing portrays the Cone Shovelhead, Harley-Davidson’s second generation of Shovelhead Big Twin engines, produced from 1970 to 1985. Introduced as a major redesign of the earlier Generator Shovelhead, this version incorporated an alternator housed in the cone-shaped timing case, stronger engine cases, and improved lubrication — marking a new era in Harley-Davidson engineering.
The illustration shows the engine equipped with its factory-style air cleaner, giving it the full, authentic silhouette familiar from classic models such as the FLH Electra Glide, FX Super Glide, and FXE Low Rider. Produced in both 74 cu in (≈1200 cc) and 80 cu in (≈1340 cc) displacements, the Shovelhead defined the Harley-Davidson lineup throughout the 1970s and early 1980s — an icon of the AMF years, known for its torque, rhythm, and unmistakable mechanical soul. Powerful yet elegant, the Cone Shovelhead remains a symbol of vintage Harley heritage and the spirit of American motorcycling freedom.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
