1970–1985 Shovelhead (S&S Super E) — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s Cone Shovelhead engine — produced from 1970 to 1985 — shown here with the legendary S&S Super E carburetor, a hallmark of custom Harley performance.
Introduced in 1970, the Cone Shovelhead replaced the earlier generator-based design with a modernized layout featuring an alternator housed in the cone-shaped timing case, improved oiling, and stronger crankcases. Available in 74 cu in (≈1200 cc) and 80 cu in (≈1340 cc) versions, it powered Harley-Davidson’s most iconic models of the 1970s and early 1980s, including the FLH Electra Glide, FX Super Glide, and FXE Low Rider.
In this illustration, the S&S Super E carburetor replaces the factory unit — a popular modification among riders seeking sharper throttle response, more torque, and the unmistakable look of American custom culture. The result is a perfect blend of authenticity and individuality — a Shovelhead that embodies both history and freedom.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
