1948–1965 Panhead — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s Panhead engine, produced from 1948 to 1965 — the direct successor to the legendary Knucklehead and one of the most recognizable Big Twin engines ever made. The illustration shows the engine in its pure mechanical form, without the air cleaner, revealing the refined symmetry and technical beauty of its design.
The Panhead introduced major innovations for Harley-Davidson: aluminum cylinder heads with cast-iron barrels, hydraulic valve lifters, and an improved oil circulation system — all contributing to better performance, cooling, and longevity. Available in 61 cu in (≈1000 cc) and 74 cu in (≈1207 cc) versions, it powered iconic models like the Hydra-Glide, Duo-Glide, and early Electra-Glide.
Beloved for its reliability and timeless style, the Panhead defined the look and sound of Harley-Davidson through the 1950s and early 1960s.
Its name comes from the smooth, pan-shaped rocker covers that crown the cylinders — a design that remains an icon of American motorcycling.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
