1948–1965 Panhead (Air Cleaner Version) — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s Panhead engine, produced from 1948 to 1965, shown here with its distinctive air cleaner assembly — a defining feature of mid-century Big Twins such as the Hydra-Glide and Duo-Glide. Replacing the Knucklehead, the Panhead introduced a new era of engineering and refinement. With aluminum cylinder heads, hydraulic valve lifters, and an improved oil circulation system, it offered smoother operation, better cooling, and long-term durability. Produced in 61 cu in (≈1000 cc) and 74 cu in (≈1207 cc) versions, it powered Harley-Davidson’s most iconic touring motorcycles of the 1950s and early 1960s. The rounded “pan-shaped” rocker covers that give the Panhead its name became an instant design icon — especially when paired with the factory air cleaner that completes the engine’s unmistakable silhouette. Beloved for its reliability, sound, and timeless character, the Panhead remains one of the most celebrated Harley-Davidson engines ever built.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
