Harley-Davidson U-series engine concept drawing.
The drawing was inspired by a historical black and white photo of 1937 UL model (01/09/2024 version of drawing).
In the late summer of 1929, Harley-Davidson introduced its 45″ (737 cc) flathead V-Twin to compete with the Indian 101 Scout. This was the “D” model produced from 1929 to 1931. 45 Flathead engine survived until 1973, powering the servi-cars. In 1937, the 74- and 80-inch U-series models appeared. In 1940 another timing cover appeared. The 74″ models featured 11 cylinder fins, while the 80″ versions had 13.
