1937–1952 Flathead W-Series — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s Flathead W-Series, produced from 1937 to 1952 — the refined 45″ (≈739 cc) side-valve engine family that powered some of the most iconic mid-size Harley-Davidson motorcycles of the pre- and postwar eras.
Replacing the earlier R-Series, the W engine introduced a fully recast crankcase, improved oiling, and stronger internals, creating a smooth, durable powerplant that became the backbone of Harley’s 45″ line for over fifteen years.
Reliable, easy to service, and mechanically elegant, the W-Series included models such as the WL for civilian riders, the high-performance WLD, and the racing WR, which achieved great success on American dirt tracks and hill climbs.
Celebrated for its simplicity and balance, the W-Series embodies the spirit of Harley-Davidson’s craftsmanship in its purest mechanical form.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
