1936 Knucklehead — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s legendary Knucklehead — produced from 1936 to 1947, and recognized as the company’s first mass-produced overhead-valve (OHV) Big Twin. With a displacement of 61 cu in (≈1000 cc), later expanded to 74 cu in (≈1207 cc), the Knucklehead marked a new era of performance and engineering sophistication for Harley-Davidson. Its distinctive rocker boxes, resembling clenched knuckles, gave the engine its iconic nickname. Introduced on the EL and later FL models, it combined power, reliability, and distinctive style — qualities that reshaped Harley’s reputation worldwide. In 1937, racer Joe Petrali rode a Knucklehead-powered machine to a record 136 mph (219 km/h) on Daytona Beach, proving its capability and durability. Beloved by riders and builders alike, the Knucklehead remains one of the most revered Harley-Davidson engines ever built — a true symbol of innovation, strength, and timeless design.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
