1936–1947 Knucklehead (Air Cleaner Version) — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s legendary Knucklehead engine — shown here with its distinctive air cleaner assembly, as used on production models between 1936 and 1947.
As Harley-Davidson’s first overhead-valve (OHV) Big Twin, the Knucklehead redefined motorcycle engineering and became one of the most admired engines in American history.
With a displacement of 61 cu in (≈1000 cc) and later 74 cu in (≈1207 cc), it delivered smooth, reliable power wrapped in a uniquely sculpted design.
The addition of the air cleaner not only completed the silhouette of the Knucklehead but also became one of its most recognizable visual signatures — balancing function and form in perfect harmony.
Introduced with the EL and FL models, the Knucklehead powered Harley-Davidson’s golden prewar and postwar years.
It remains a timeless symbol of performance, craftsmanship, and mechanical art.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
