1936–1947 Knucklehead (1947 Model) — Harley-Davidson Engine Print
This handmade drawing depicts Harley-Davidson’s legendary Knucklehead engine — produced from 1936 to 1947 and shown here in its final-year 1947 configuration. As the company’s first overhead-valve (OHV) Big Twin, the Knucklehead marked a turning point in Harley-Davidson history, combining innovative engineering with unmistakable style. By 1947, after more than a decade of refinement, the 74 cu in (≈1207 cc) Knucklehead had reached its peak: stronger internals, improved oiling, and the clean, sculpted rocker covers that defined its silhouette. This final version symbolized the end of Harley-Davidson’s prewar mechanical lineage and set the stage for the Panhead era that followed in 1948.
Loved by riders, collectors, and builders alike, the Knucklehead remains one of the most iconic engines ever created — a perfect blend of power, durability, and timeless design.
Each print is part of a collector’s series celebrating Harley-Davidson engines across more than a century of history. Perfect for enthusiasts, workshops, or anyone who values vintage engineering and design.
