This handmade drawing pays tribute to Harley-Davidson’s legendary Flathead family — one of the most enduring and influential engine lines in motorcycle history. First introduced in 1929 with the 45″ D-Series, the side-valve (flathead) design combined simplicity, durability, and smooth power delivery. Over the decades, it powered a vast range of motorcycles — from lightweight civilian WL models to the Big Twin U and UL machines, and the tough, three-wheeled Servi-Car (G) used by police and tradesmen.
Flatheads became the mechanical heartbeat of the Great Depression, World War II, and the postwar years. Their easy maintenance and rugged reliability made them beloved by riders, mechanics, and collectors worldwide.
Even after production ended in 1973, Flathead engines remained symbols of timeless American engineering — steady, strong, and built to last.
